About This Product

American Elm is an iconic deciduous tree native to eastern North America that is loved for its cascading， graceful shape and green serrated leaves that turn gold in fall. Fast growing and low maintenance， this tree will grow 3 ft. to 6 ft. every year with minimal care. This was the most popular tree to plant in the rapidly growing cities of the 19th century， so that by the 20th century many streets were lined with elms and were shaded in Summer by a cathedral-like ceiling of their massive branches. In nature， it can be found in swamps， bottomland forests， moist slopes and areas with especially nutrient-rich soils. The American elm is a tough and beautiful shade tree that tolerates urban conditions quite well and is the official state tree of Massachusetts. Reaches a towering height of 100 ft. with an equal width and can withstand temperatures down to minus 40°.
