About This Product

Truly versatile, the Nandina Firepower plant has shades of lime green and yellow from early spring through summer. In fall when temperatures change, the evergreen foliage will change to its namesake with bright red and crimson shades. The fire nandina will keep its brilliant shades of red colors through winter. This dwarf nandina plant does not produce flowers or fruit but the fall foliage makes up for it.
  • Nandinas are nicknamed Heavenly Bamboo or Sacred Bamboo and belong in the same genus as bamboo due to their similar leaves and cane like stems. Plant the fire red Nandina domestica fire power as a single specimen, mass planted as shrub borders or accents, or in containers if you are limited on space. Use the color as a focal point or blend in with other colors in the landscape.
  • The dwarf Nandina Firepower can thrive in full sun or partial shade. A well drained, partially acidic soil is best to keep this plant thriving but it can adapt to a multitude of soil types. A yearly addition of nandina fertilizer will help the shrub perform its best. You can apply a slow release fertilizer at the base of the plant in early spring to encourage new growth.
  • Plant Nandina across the United States in the department of agriculture hardiness zones 6-11. Be sure to water the plant well during the first year of planting to help establish a strong root system. After the first year of planting, it will be drought tolerant except during dry spells or hot conditions. A thick 2 inch layer of mulch will help to retain moisture. Heavenly Bamboo is also resistant to most types of pests and disease.
  • These are a noninvasive variety perfect for any landscape planting! Nandina Fire Power shrubs are great for beginners due to their easy care.
  • The Nandina shrub needs very little to no maintenance. With a compact shape, pruning will only be required to maintain the desired size and shape of your liking.
  • The best time for nandina pruning is in winter while the dwarf plant is dormant. It has an upright growing habit and is smaller than other nandina varieties.
  • The Nandina Firepower size is dwarf and compact! It is perfect for small planting sites or keeping in containers. The Nandina Firepower height is up to 2-3 feet tall and wide at full maturity. You can space nandina at least 2 feet apart if planting in groups.
  • The Nandina bush looks great with other evergreen shrubs like loropetalum or groundcovers like spreading yews. Additionally, flowering perennials like daylilies look nice near it too. Disclaimer: Nandina is toxic to pets if consumed.
